BioTreks follows an annual publication cycle, which begins by students proposing abstracts and drafting manuscripts to present at an online peer-review conference in May. Following the conference, authors revise their manuscripts and work with editors to prepare them for publication in an August issue of the journal. More details can be found in the Guide to Authors. The following table gives a detailed breakdown of these events as they will unfold during the current publication cycle.
In 2025, teams will be charged $70 per paper to participated in the May peer review conference and an additional $120 to cover editing and page layout costs if and when their paper is accepted for publication.

| 3 March 2025 | Registration opens. Teams can begin registering for the 2025 publication cycle. Abstracts submissions should include a brief summary of the intended articles and a list of participating authors. |
| 28 March 2025 | Registration closes. New abstract submissions for the 2025 season will not be accepted after this date. |
| 25 April 2025 | Manuscript drafts are due. Student manuscripts will be posted online for review by judges and other participants. |
| 3 May 2025, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM ET | Online BioTreks conference. Even though the student manuscripts are available for review and edit prior to and after this date, the this conference provides a focused period in time when everyone will be online and available for real-time discussion. |
| 23 May 2025 | Manuscripts are finalized. Following the conference, authors will have several weeks to respond to reviewer comments and make the necessary edits to their manuscripts. At the end of this period, manuscripts will be locked to students and made available to judges to complete their evaluations. |
| 9 June 2025 | Acceptance decisions are announced. Judges will review the completed manuscripts and decide which papers are acceptable for publication in the upcoming issue. They will also award badges to papers that demonstrate exemplary qualities. |
| 4 August 2025 | Page proofs are released. Authors will be given an opportunity to review and comment on the page proofs prior to publication. |
| 20 October 2025 | Articles will be published online. |
| 9 February 2026 | The schedule will be posted for BioTreks 2026! |
